Official Turtle Race Rules and Regulations

  1. Adopted turtles will be launched into the McDaniel College indoor swimming pool at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland 21157 at Decker Center, ground floor, at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
  2. Once the turtles are launched, they will be propelled down the racing lanes by “turbo” fans at the pools edge.  Otherwise, no attempt to interfere with turtles is permitted, unless deemed necessary by the Presenter (Meals on Wheels). The Presenter reserves the right to the manually propel the turtles down the course if necessary. 
  3. Each turtle will be marked with a number corresponding to a number on the donor turtle adoption certificate.  The persons whose names appears on the adoption form corresponding to the first top twenty winning turtles will be awarded prizes and qualify for a chance to win grand prize of $10,000.
  4. Employees, officers and directors of Meals on Wheels and event leadership involved in the planning, organization, judging or operations of the event and their immediate families are not eligible to win.  All ages are permitted to adopt turtles, however, prizes will be presented to only those who are 18 years or older.  Prizes announced to those under 18 years of age will be presented to the winning individual’s parent or legal guardian over the age of 18.  All winners must be legal residents of the United States.
  5. All entries mailed must be received by Friday, May 2, 2008 at the address listed below.  If available, entries will be sold the day of the race at the McDaniel College Swimming pool.  Mailed entrants assume the risk of non-delivery of any entries to Meals on Wheels.  Mailing address:  Meals on Wheels, 515 S.   6. Winners will be announced at the McDaniel College Swimming Pool at the end of the event.  Winners need not be present to win.  Winners that are not present will be notified by telephone and/or mail. Names and likenesses of winner(s) may be used by event organizer for promotional purposes.
  7. By adopting a turtle, entrants release Meals on Wheels and its members, agents, employees, sponsors, and other related entities from any and all liabilities with respect to prizes.
  8. This event is subject to all local, state and federal laws and is void if prohibited by law.  The purpose of this event is to raise funds for Meals on Wheels.  For more information, please call the turtle hotline at 443-573-0929.
  9. The grand prize turtle will be randomly selected as a potential winning turtle in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined by Odds On Promotions, Inc.  One turtle in every 2,000 turtles in the Carroll County Turbo Turtle Splash will be randomly selected as a potential winning turtle.  The winning number is selected prior to the race and kept in a sealed security envelope.  After the first top twenty turtles cross the finish line, a race official will determine whether one of the top twenty turtles is the pre-selected winning turtle.  If it is, the turtle adopter wins grand prize of $10,000.   If it is not, the $10,000 prize will not be awarded.  Many valuable prizes will be awarded to the top turtles, including guaranteed $500 cash to first prize winner.  Exact chances of winning will be determined by the exact number of turtles adopted.  Maximum prize value is $10,000. 
  10. Meals on Wheels is a private non-profit organization.  Each turtle adoption represents the donation of a hot nutritious meal for a Meals on Wheels homebound client in Carroll County.
  11. All adopted turtles entered will remain the property of Meals on Wheels.
